Muqarnas Necklace

The muqarnas is one of the most important structural and decorative elements in Mamluk architecture. Its form is mimicked in this necklace from the monumental muqarnas of the entrance portal of the Palace of Amir Qawsun, built in 1337. The 18kt Gold and Sterling Silver necklace is pierced with an arabesque pattern borrowed from a design composition in the doorknocker of Sultan Hassan, whereas the ends follow a pattern found in the mihrab
